BIOGRAPHY

Julius Leerkamp (23-05-1996) graduated from Hogeschool Rotterdam Product Design department. Julius believes in quality over quantity. This mentallity comes forward from the dislike on the current throwaway society. Consumerism makes for a giant part of the environmental issues we have in this world today. When products break, we have the tendincie to throw away instead of repair. This needs to change, with Julius Empire we are trying to chage this mentality product by product while still keeping the aesthetics people desire.

Julius' passion for lighting started after completing his internship as a product developer at Moooi, there he learned the back-end of product design, this includes final prototyping, large scale production and assembly. this passion was increased after his graduation project which he did at the Studio of Rick Tegelaar. This internship was mainly focused on front end design, primary sketches, first prototypes and choice of materials and construction. These internships helped him become the complete product designer he is today.
